Taiwan stocks - Factors to watch - Sept 5

TAIPEI, Sept 5 (Reuters) - Here are news stories and press
reports that may affect the Taiwan stock market on Friday.

Taiwan stocks could open lower after Wall Street had its
steepest decline in more than two months on Thursday, raising
concerns about the outlook for Taiwan's export-driven technology
industry.

LOCAL PRESS REPROTS

-- Taiwan's life insurers had a combined T$58.8 billion loss
in the first half of the year, hit by a sell-off of the stock
market and a stronger Taiwan dollar, the Economic Daily reported.

-- Taiwan's finance minister said the government's National
Stabilization Fund is closely watching the stock market and could
buy shares when necessary, the Commercial Times reported.

The island's main stock index .TWII closed at a two-year
low on Thursday, extending its slide to about 10 percent this
week.
