India's MSTC to raise coal imports next fiscal

NEW DELHI, March 3 | Tue Mar 3, 2009 12:00pm IST

NEW DELHI, March 3 (Reuters) - State-run Indian trading firm MSTC Ltd plans to increase its thermal and coking coal imports in the next financial year from April due to higher local demand, its head said on Tuesday.

Malay Sengupta said his firm would import 200,000 tonnes of coking coal in 2009/10, compared to 150,000 tonnes this year, while thermal coal imports would double to one million tonnes.
