Afghan death brings UK military toll to 150 - MoD
LONDON |
LONDON (Reuters) - A British soldier has died after being caught in an explosion in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence said on Saturday.
He is the 150th member of the British armed forces to die in Afghanistan since the conflict began in late 2001, the ministry said.
The soldier, from the Royal Welsh Regiment, was struck by a blast while on a foot patrol near Musa Qala, a volatile district of northern Helmand, a province of southern Afghanistan.
The MoD did not say when the attack occurred.
Britain has more than 8,000 troops based in Afghanistan, the vast majority serving in Helmand, a desert province that remains a heartland of the Taliban-led insurgency.
