Brazil has no plan of seeking funds from IMF-Lula

LONDON, April 1 | Fri Apr 3, 2009 1:04am IST

LONDON, April 1 (Reuters) - Brazil has no intention of seeking funding from the International Monetary Fund, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Thursday.

"The thing that I can say with a lot of pride is that Brazil needs no money from the IMF today," Lula told journalists when asked about an IMF credit to Mexico announced this week.

He added that Brazil was currently in a position of lending money to the IMF but the amount had not been decided. G20 leaders decided at a meeting on Thursday to sharply boost funding available to the IMF. (Reporting by Axel Bugge; editing by Keith Weir)
