LONDON, July 17 (Reuters) - A source close to Addax Petroleum Corp AXC.TO said on Friday it had declared force majeure on its Nigerian Antan crude oil exports from Thursday due to production problems.

The source said Addax was investigating the situation but the amount of crude oil output affected was not yet known. The problem was not thought to have been caused by any militant involvement.

There was no official confirmation from the company and a spokesman could not be contacted for comment.

Antan was due to export 70,000 barrels per day of crude oil in August.

The latest case would bring to seven the number of force majeures currently in place on Nigerian crude oil streams. On Thursday Total SA (TOTF.PA) declared force majeure on its Amenam crude oil output due to technical issues.
