DAR ES SALAAM (Reuters) - A bus in Tanzania collided with a lorry after bursting a tyre, killing 28 people, police said on Monday.

Simon Sirro, regional police commander for Tanga, said the accident occurred on Sunday in Korogwe, about 200 km northwest of the commercial capital Dar es Salaam. Among the 18 men and 10 women killed were an American woman and a Kenyan man, he said.

Fatal road accidents are rife in east Africa, where roads and vehicles are poorly maintained and speeding is common. Last week, 22 people died in Kenya when two buses collided.
