Saudi Arabia reports second H1N1 flu death
RIYADH |
RIYADH (Reuters) - An Indonesian woman died of the new H1N1 flu in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, the second death in the kingdom which is gearing up to welcome hundreds of thousands of Muslim pilgrims in November.
The official Saudi Press Agency quoted the health ministry as saying the 28-year-old woman died in the city of Dammam, in the eastern region of the kingdom which has a large population of foreign workers from Asian countries.
On Monday, Saudi Arabia announced its first death from H1N1, a 30-year-old Saudi man, also in Dammam. Saudi Arabia has reported about 300 cases.
Saudi officials have said they would use thermal cameras and have more medics on stand-by as part of measures to limit the flu during the haj pilgrimage but do not expect to stop the spread of the virus completely.
