Google says its voice service should not be regulated
WASHINGTON, Sept 25 (Reuters) - Google Inc's (GOOG.O) voice
service is an "online software tool" and should not be
regulated, a Google lawyer told Reuters on Friday.
In response to an AT&T Inc (T.N) letter to the U.S. Federal
Communications Commission arguing that any new "net neutrality"
rules should apply to Web companies as much as to telephone
companies, Richard Whitt, Google's Washington telecom and media
counsel, said the Google voice service is an "online software
tool."
"We feel comfortable that it is not a regulated service," Whitt told Reuters. "It is a service that originates from an online platform."
