'Kambakkht Ishq' named worst film at Golden Kela awards
MUMBAI |
MUMBAI (Reuters) - There was no love lost for "Kambakkht Ishq" at Bollywood's Golden Kela awards with the Sajid Nadiadwala film being crowned the worst film of 2009.
The film, panned by critics and audiences alike, also won its leading lady Kareena Kapoor the dubious honour of worst actress.
Organisers of the Golden Kela awards, an annual event like the Razzies that spoofs the Oscars, also honoured Sylvester Stallone and Denise Richards for their cameos in "Kambakkht Ishq".
"Chandni Chowk to China" was the other big winner on Friday, picking up the supporting cast awards for Ranvir Shorey and Deepika Padukone. The Warner Bros. production also got a special award for its "insensitivity".
Unlike Hollywood's Razzies, where Sandra Bullock showed up this year to collect her award, none of the winners or nominees turned up for the Golden Kela awards ceremony in New Delhi.
"I think perhaps we lack a little bit of sportsman spirit," said Jatin Varma, editor of 'Random' magazine which organises the awards.
Not everyone ignored the awards though. Actor Abhishek Bachchan who was named for worst accent in "Delhi 6" chose to tweet about the "milestone" in his career.
"At least 'Delhi 6' won something. I'm overjoyed," Bachchan wrote on his Twitter account.
Also among the Golden Kela winners was the team of "What's Your Raashee". Director Ashutosh Gowariker took home the worst director trophy while Harman Baweja's portrayal of a wannabe groom earned him the worst actor prize.
More than 300,000 people voted online for the Golden Kela awards this year. (Reporting by Shilpa Jamkhandikar, Writing by Tony Tharakan)
