S.Lanka issues tsunami alert after Indian Ocean quake

COLOMBO, June 13 | Sun Jun 13, 2010 2:45am IST

COLOMBO, June 13 (Reuters) - Sri Lanka issued a tsunami alert for its coastal areas before dawn on Sunday following a strong quake with a magnitude of 7.5 in the Indian Ocean near India's remote Nicobar Islands, an official said.

"We had issued the tsunami alert to all the coastal areas and are on watch for evacuation," Pradeep Koddipily, an official at the national disaster management centre, told Reuters.
