NEW DELHI, July 28 | Wed Jul 28, 2010 7:54pm IST

NEW DELHI, July 28 (Reuters) - India on Wednesday modified rules for telecoms operators and equipment vendors to address security-related concerns, a government statement said.

The Department of Telecommunications said on its website telecoms operators must take over equipment maintenance locally in a phased manner and equipment vendors must allow inspection of gear.

Earlier this year, India had barred Indian mobile phone operators from placing orders with China's Huawei Technologies [HWT.UL] and ZTE Corp (0763.HK)000063.SZ because of security concerns, Indian telecom industry officials have said.
