RPT-U.S. inspectors don't find oil leaking at platform
WASHINGTON, Sept 3 |
WASHINGTON, Sept 3 (Reuters) - The U.S. Interior Department said late on Friday that government inspectors did not find any oil leaking from Mariner Energy's ME.N platform that burned in the Gulf of Mexico.
"Inspectors have reported no sign of pollution coming from Mariner Energy Resources's Vermilion 380 platform during an initial inspection of the facility today," the department's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement that oversees offshore drilling said in a statement.
"The inspectors were on the platform for several hours today and confirmed the safety shut-in valves for the associated wells and incoming and outgoing pipelines are all closed, and the platform's tanks and pumps are secure," the agency said. (Reporting by Tom Doggett; editing by Carol Bishopric)
