China, India pledge to resolve border dispute

NEW DELHI | Thu Dec 16, 2010 1:18pm IST

NEW DELHI Dec 16 (Reuters) - India and China reiterated their commitments on Thursday to resolve outstanding differences, including their long-running border dispute, at an early date through peaceful negotiations, according to a joint statement.

China also said it supports India's aspirations to play a greater role in the United Nations Security Council, but it stopped short of expressing full backing for India.

Both countries, long suspicious of each other, set a new target for bilateral trade volumes at $100 billion by 2015. The joint statement was made after talks between Chinese Premier Wen Jaibao and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh in New Delhi.
