January   8(Reuters) - Following is the weather report detailed
by India. Main Weather Observations (recorded during past 24
hours)

Mainly dry weather prevailed over the country except Andaman &
Nicobar Islands where widespread rainfall has occurred. The
chief amounts of rainfall (in cm) recorded at  830 hours IST of
today are: Mayabandar9, Noncowary4 and Hutbay & Carnicobar2
each. * Cold wave/severe cold wave conditions are prevailing
over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and parts of Punjab, Haryana,
north Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and interior Orissa. *
Cold day conditions prevailed over Punjab, Haryana, Uttar
Pradesh and over parts of north Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh
and Bihar where maximum temperature were 16.0°C or below. *
Fog/shallow fog observed over parts of Punjab, Haryana, north
Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, north Madhya Pradesh and
SubHimalayan West Bengal. * Kalpana1 cloud imagery at  830
hours IST shows convective clouds over parts of Jammu &
Kashmir, south and eastcentral Bay of Bengal and south Andaman
Sea. Low/ medium clouds are seen over parts of Himachal
Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Tamilnadu. Synoptic Features

The feeble western disturbance as an upper air system over
Jammu & Kashmir and neighbourhood persists. It will move away
eastwards by tomorrow. * A fresh western disturbance would
affect western Himalayan region from 11th onwards. Major

 -----------* Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur
over Andaman & Nicobar Islands. * Scattered rainfall/snowfall
would occur over Jammu & Kashmir and isolated over Himachal
Pradesh and Uttarakhand during next 24 hours and mainly dry
weather thereafter. * No significant change in minimum and
maximum temperatures over northwest, central and east India
during next 48 hours. * Fog/dense fog may occur over parts of
Punjab, Haryana, north Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar
during next 24 hours and may decrease in intensity and duration
thereafter. Weather Warnings ---------------- * Ground frost
would occur over isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar
Pradesh, north Rajasthan, Bihar, north Madhya Pradesh and north
Chhattisgarh during next two nights. * Cold wave conditions
would prevail over parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh
during next 48 hours. * Cold day conditions would prevail over
parts of Punjab, Haryana, north Rajasthan and Bihar during next
