PIPER JAFFRAY (PJC.N: Quote, Profile, Research)
The middle market investment bank named Thomas Schnettler, who had been chief financial officer, as president and chief operating officer. Schnettler, who will continue to report to Piper Jaffray Chief Executive Andrew Duff, will be replaced as CFO by Debbra Schoneman, who had been the investment bank's managing director and treasurer. In addition, the firm named Alex Ko, chairman and CEO of Piper Jaffray Asia and David Wilson, CEO of its European operations, to the firm's management committee. Both Ko and Wilson will report to Schnettler.
WACHOVIA (WB.N: Quote, Profile, Research)
The bank named John Papadopulos, 49, as president of its retirement and investment products group, one of three businesses within its capital management group. Papadopulos succeeds Robert Reid, recently named head of the real estate division of the bank's corporate and investment bank. He will report to David Carroll, head of the bank's capital management group and serve on the unit's operating committee.
MERK INVESTMENTS
Palo Alto-based Merk Investments, which manages roughly $400 million in several currency funds, hired Joseph Brusuelas as chief economist and global strategist. Brusuelas, formerly the chief U.S. economist at IDEAglobal, will head research and analysis at Merk.
