NEW YORK (Reuters) - Volkswagen AG (VOWG.DE: Quote, Profile, Research) aims to more than triple annual car sales in the United States to more than 1 million a year by 2018, according to the Wall Street Journal on Monday, citing VW's top U.S. executive.

The Journal reported that Stefan Jacoby, president of Volkswagen America, said he is confident of his company's success in the United States.

Volkswagen of America sold 230,572 vehicles in 2007, according to the Journal, representing a drop of 1.9 percent on the previous year.
