Air France to Make Offer for Alitalia Mar 13,14-Source

ROME (Reuters) - Air France-KLM (AIRF.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) will present its final, binding offer for Alitalia (AZPIa.MI: Quote, Profile, Research) on March 13 or 14, an Italian union source said on Thursday after meeting with Alitalia management.

The source, who declined to be named, said that any acquisition of Alitalia would only take place with the agreement of the Italian government, EU anti-trust authorities and the Italian airline's unions.

The source said Air France held firm on layoffs, reiterating that any cuts would be in line with Alitalia's own plans. Air France has previously said its forecasts for job cuts of 1,700 was in line with Alitalia's own corporate plan.
