MUMBAI (Reuters) - Soha Ali Khan, who plays an actress in "Khoya Khoya Chand", says the period film explores the bold choices an Indian actress often had to make in her climb to stardom.
The film by acclaimed director Sudhir Mishra, narrates the relationship between an actress and a writer-director with the story based in the 1950s.
"The film is not only about recreating 1950s Bollywood, it has many layers to it," Khan, the daughter of actress Sharmila Tagore and former Indian cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, told Reuters on Monday.
"Khoya Khoya Chand" explores the character's ambition as an actress and her struggle as the family's sole bread winner.
"The film deals with how a woman chooses films as a career at a time when people thought no 'good woman' would take up acting,” the 29-year-old actress said.
"It shows how she copes with emotional and sexual exploitation to support her family."
"It is also about the bold choices she makes to rise in her career," Khan, who shot to fame with her performance in "Rang De Basanti", added.
"Khoya Khoya Chand" is set to open on December 7.
