'Taare Zameen Par' misses IIFA nomination
NEW DELHI (Reuters) - "Taare Zameen Par", a film about dyslexia that has earned critical acclaim and box-office success since its December release, is not in the running for honours at this year's International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards.
IIFA Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan said the film's producer Aamir Khan did not formally apply for a nomination in any award category this year.
"Aamir (Khan) does not believe in awards and he has remained away from it for personal reasons ... if he doesn't fill in a form as producer, then the film doesn't come up for nomination," Bachchan told reporters this week.
Two of actor Shah Rukh Khan's films -- "Chak De India" and "Om Shanti Om" -- have been nominated in the Best Picture category. "Guru", "Jab We Met", Life in a Metro" and "Partner" are the other films competing for the top prize.
The IIFA awards, the Indian film industry's equivalent of the Oscars, will be held from June 6-8 in Bangkok this year as the academy moves around the world to build international appeal.
