Bollywood says Hello to film on BPO employees

MUMBAI (Reuters) - India's booming BPO industry and potential pitfalls faced by call centre employees form the basis of a new Bollywood film starring Salman Khan.

“Hello,” based on Chetan Bhagat's novel "one night @ the call center," chronicles the events of a single night and how they affect employees of a call centre in Mumbai.

"Working in a call centre is not that easy and I have tried to bring this out," director Atul Agnihotri told Reuters.

The film attempts to uncover the dark underbelly of one of India's biggest success stories, with a call centre used as a backdrop to showcase the internal conflicts of the characters.

"There is frustration, pressure, promiscuity and abusive clients," Agnihotri said.

For actress Gul Panag, the film’s characters represent the ills of the industry.

"The threat of an imminent job cut is always there, because you are in a very dispensable position, secondly there are late night shifts," Panag said.

"Hello" opened in Indian cinemas on Friday.
