Shiney Ahuja gets bail in rape case
MUMBAI (Reuters) - Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja has been granted bail by the Mumbai High Court more than three months after he was arrested on charges of raping his maid.
"Ahuja was granted bail on condition that he would deposit 50,000 rupees and that he would not stay in Mumbai for the duration of the bail," his lawyer Shirish Gupte told the CNN-IBN news channel.
The 36-year-old actor has also been asked to surrender his passport and report to a police station once a week, Gupte said.
Ahuja, who made his debut in the critically acclaimed "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi" in 2003, has been in jail since June 15.
He faces a prison sentence of at least seven years if found guilty of rape, criminal intimidation and wrongful confinement charges.
