Sao Paulo's main stock index, the Bovespa .BVSP fell 3.1 percent to 63,001.58 points.
Banco do Brasil (BBAS3.SA: Quote, Profile, Research) slid 6.1 percent to 24.56 reais. Mining company Vale (VALE5.SA: Quote, Profile, Research), the second-heaviest stock in the Bovespa index also weighed on the overall market, falling 4.5 percent at 45.55 reais. (Reporting by Ana Nicolaci da Costa)
