SAO PAULO, July 2 (Reuters) - Brazil's benchmark stock index slumped 3.55 percent on Wednesday, as declines in global markets prompted investors to reduce holdings of emerging market securities.

The Bovespa index .BVSP of the Sao Paulo stock exchange fell to 61,144 points from Wednesday's close of 63,396.19. Oil giant Petrobras dropped 3.9 percent, while mining company Vale was down more than 5 percent, leading the declines. (Reporting by Elzio Barreto)
