MUMBAI (Reuters) - Drugmaker Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd said on Thursday its generics unit has launched azathioprine tablets in the United States.

Glenmark Generics Ltd acquired full marketing rights for the drug from an unnamed company, the company said in a statement.

Azathioprine is a generic version of Imuran, used to prevent rejection in kidney transplantation. It is also used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, Glenmark said in a statement.

Imuran had sales of about $36 million for the 12 months to June 2008, the company added.
