BSE Sensex extends rise to more than 5 pct on day

MUMBAI (Reuters) - The BSE Sensex rose to be up more than 5 percent in late trade on Friday, recovering strongly from a brief dip into negative territory earlier in the afternoon.

Reliance Industries and and Infosys Technologies led the gains.

At 3:17 p.m., the 30-share BSE index was up 5.82 percent at 8,942.51.
