BSE Sensex climbs 2 pct, outsourcers rally
MUMBAI (Reuters) - The BSE Sensex extended gains to 2 percent by midday on Monday, as index futures pointed to a higher start for European markets after hopes for a global economic recovery had lifted sentiment across Asia.
Tata Consultancy Services Ltd, the country's top IT-services firm by sales, surged 14.9 percent to 498.40 rupees after it beat forecasts with a 22 percent rise in quarterly profit.
This also boosted other outsourcers, with No. 2 player Infosys Technologies gaining 5.4 percent to 1,968.35 rupees and smaller rival Wipro climbing 10.7 percent to 475.25 rupees.
At 11:58 a.m. (0628 GMT), the 30-share BSE index was up 1.9 percent at 15,029.23 points, with 24 stocks gaining, after climbing to as high as 15,047.27.
The 50-share NSE index was up 1.8 percent at 4,454.85.
