SINGAPORE (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama arrived in Singapore on Saturday to join a summit of Asia Pacific leaders expected to agree on keeping stimulus policies in place to cement a global economic recovery.

Speaking earlier in Japan on his first trip to Asia as president, Obama said the world must pursue balanced and sustainable economic growth and avoid a return to the cycles of boom and bust that led to the global financial crisis.

Trade protectionism has been a key theme at the meetings of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Singapore, with several leaders pointing the finger at recent trade curbs imposed by Washington.

Obama flies to China on Sunday, where trade tensions and the value of the Chinese yuan currency will be high on the agenda. He finishes his Asian tour in South Korea.
