Toronto stock index falls 400 points

TORONTO, Oct 7 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange's main index was down 400 points late Tuesday afternoon as financial shares deepened their slide and materials issues gave up earlier gains.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was down 402.08 points, or 3.93 percent, at 9,828.35. (Reporting by Cameron French; editing by Rob Wilson)
