China to allow foreign investors to conduct FX derivatives

BEIJING, Feb 27 (Reuters) - China’s foreign exchange regulator said on Monday it would allow foreign investors in the interbank bond market to trade forwards, forex swaps and options.

The State Administration of Foreign Exchange said the derivatives trading could only be conducted over the counter with banks as a way to hedge foreign exchange exposure in the bond market.

Foreign central banks were not among the institutions allowed to conduct derivatives trading under the new rules, it said. (Reporting by Nick Heath in Beijing, Writing by John Ruwitch in Shanghai; Editing by Jacqueline Wong)
