India's Tata Motors January vehicle sales dip

MUMBAI, Feb 2 (Reuters) - India's top bus and truck maker, Tata Motors Ltd (TAMO.BO: Quote, Profile, Research), saw a slight drop in January vehicle sales to 54,796 units from 55,440 a year earlier.

New York-listed Tata Motors (TTM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said late on Friday that sales of commercial vehicles rose 5.6 percent to 30,530 units from 28,896, while the No. 3 carmaker sold 20,119 units of cars and utility vehicles, down 11.8 percent from 22,801 a year ago.

Exports rose 10.8 percent to 4,147 units from 3,743 units.

Tata, which was picked by Ford Motor Co (F.N: Quote, Profile, Research) as the front-runner to buy its Jaguar and Land Rover luxury brands, is scheduled to roll out the ultra cheap Nano car later this year. (Reporting by Hiral Vora; Editing by Jan Dahinten)
