US STOCKS-Market slips at open on recession. insurer concerns

NEW YORK, Feb 8 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks opened lower on Friday after a Federal Reserve official said a recession might not be avoidable and fresh concerns arose about the outlook for bond insurers.
The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI was down 39.10 points, or 0.32 percent, at 12,207.90. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index .SPX was down 5.16 points, or 0.39 percent, at 1,331.75. The Nasdaq Composite Index .IXIC was down 3.29 points, or 0.14 percent, at 2,289.74.
