Daimler plans buy outs to step up job cuts -sources
FRANKFURT, Nov 4 (Reuters) - Daimler (DAIGn.DE: Quote, Profile, Research) plans to offer several thousand employees a pay off if they leave the company voluntarily, two people familiar with the plan told Reuters on Wednesday.
The German premium carmaker could spend hundreds of millions of euros on the severance packages, on of the people said.
Management has held talks with the works council on the matter but no decision has been made, they added.
Daimler has pledged in agreements with organised labour to refrain from compulsory redundancies through 2011.
Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche has recently said the group's headcount would have to be significantly reduced next year. (Reporting by Hendrik Sackmann; Writing by Ludwig Burger)
