Ponting to fly home after injuring wrist tendon
BASSETERRE, St Kitts Reuters - Australia captain Ricky Ponting will fly home from the Caribbean on Friday after he was ruled out of Australia's final two one-day internationals against West Indies because of a wrist injury.
Team physiotherapist Justin Steers told reporters Ponting was unavailable for Friday's match and unlikely to play in the fifth and final game of the one-day series on Sunday.
"Ricky has a tendon injury in his right wrist and he will be flying home to see a specialist in Melbourne," Steers said.
"We see this as a good opportunity to have him see the specialist at his earliest convenience."
Ponting sustained the injury while batting in the third match of the five-game series in Grenada last Sunday.
Michael Clarke, in charge of Australia for the first time in a one-day international on Friday, will captain the side again on Sunday. Australia lead the series 3-0.
