and the 50-share NSE index up 2.97 percent at 4,107.20 points,
after oil prices fell, led by gains in banking and
petrochemical stocks.

GOVERNMENT BONDS <IN082418G=CC>

The 2018 bond yield at 9.28 percent, from the previous
close of 9.29 percent, as traders expected a sharp drop in
global oil prices would ease the pressure on the central bank
to tighten monetary policy.

RUPEE <INR=IN>

The rupee at 43.16/17 per dollar, from the previous close
of 43.26/27, after oil prices fell from record levels easing
concerns about inflation and global credit crisis worsening
further, with gains in stocks also helping.

The benchmark five-year interest rate swap at 9.60/9.65
percent.

Call money rate at 9.05/9.10 percent, indicating tight
liquidity conditions in the banking system.

India at 12,870 points, down 3 rupees from the previous close.
