India turmeric hits fresh high on low stocks
MUMBAI, Nov 4 (Reuters) - India's turmeric futures extended the previous session's gains on Wednesday to hit fresh contract highs, tracking a surge in spot prices due to dwindling stockpiles and good demand, analysts said.
Stocks were low as last year's output had fallen sharply due to low acreage and adverse weather, they added.
The benchmark November turmeric NTMX9 hit a contract high of 11,613 rupees per 100 kg.
In Nizamabad, a major spot market in Andhra Pradesh, the price rose 126 rupees at 11,927 rupees per 100 kg, after gaining about 9 percent in the previous session.
"Arrivals were very thin while demand was modest," said an analyst at Angel Commodities Broking Ltd.
