* Sugar prices during the upcoming festival season would remain at a "reasonable" level as the country is expected to have a surplus of 4 million tonnes of surplus sugar from the 2008/09 season, according to a food ministry official.

* The shortage of jute during the 2009/10 kharif marketing season has been revised to 200,000 bales from 760,000 bales according to the Indian Jute Mills Association.

* Coconut oil prices are likely to ease further on strong domestic supply and dumping of cheap palm oil from Malaysia.

* The federal government may launch a venture capital fund with a subsidy component of 2 billion rupees for the poultry industry as it has been reeling under repeated outbreaks of bird flu and weak exports.
