Sri Lanka Jan-April trade deficit narrows to $806.1 mln
COLOMBO, June 22 (Reuters) - Sri Lanka's trade deficit for the first four months of 2009 narrowed 61.5 percent to $806.1 million, while its gross official reserves edged up in April for the first time since July, the central bank said on Monday.
The trade deficit in April narrowed 75.9 percent to $166.7 million from $690.2 million a year earlier. April exports fell 28.2 percent to $437.6 million from $609.6 million, while imports fell 53.5 percent to $604.3 million, data showed.
The Central Bank also said foreign exchange reserves at the end of April were $1.296 billion, marginally up from end March's $1.27 billion, its first rise since July. The total at the end of 2008 was $2.99 billion. (Reporting by Shihar Aneez and Ranga Sirilal; Editing by Bryson Hull)
