India aims to produce 82 mln T wheat in '09/10-govt
NEW DELHI, Oct 27 (Reuters) - India aims to produce 82 million tonnes of wheat in 2009/10, Farm Secretary T. Nanda Kumar told reporters on Tuesday.
In 2008/09, India produced 80.58 million tonnes of wheat. Output was expected to drop this year as the worst monsoon rain in 37 years had reduced soil moisture.
Kumar said the outlook for winter-sown crops, which include rice and rapeseed, was "good". (Reporting by Ratnajyoti Dutta; Editing by Malini Menon)
