NEW DELHI, Nov 3 (Reuters) - India will take steps to boost industrial production with a specific focus on reviving the housing and construction sectors, a top government official said on Monday.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is meeting top businessmen to get their views on how to tackle the impact of the global credit crunch on the domestic economy.

"Prime Minister has assured industry that the government will take steps to boost industrial production, particularly revival of housing and construction sectors," Commerce Secretary G.K. Pillai told reporters.

Pillai said the government would also work to ensure economic growth of close to 8 percent in the fiscal year to end-March. (Reporting by Manoj Kumar and C.J. Kuncheria)
