DAWN

-- Chief of the army staff General Ashfaq Kayani on Wednesday said that armed forces of the country were fully alive to threats facing the nation.

-- The United States assured Pakistan on Wednesday it had nothing to fear from growing U.S.-India relations because Washington also valued its ties with Islamabad.

THE NEWS

-- Interior Minister Rehman Malik has demanded the Afghan government and NATO forces to arrest Taliban commander in Swat, Fazlullah, if he is inside Afghanistan, and hand him over to Pakistan.

-- Six civilians and 12 militants were killed while 23 others sustained injuries as jet fighters attacked various parts of Orakzai tribal region on Wednesday, officials said.

-- Chief Minister of the central Punjab province, Shahbaz Sharif, on Wednesday said India was supporting terrorism in the southwestern province of Baluchistan and the government had concrete evidence that New Delhi was involved in destabilising the province as well as South Waziristan tribal region in northwest.   Continued...
