DAWN

-- The government told the National Assembly it was ready to provide lists of beneficiaries of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) as well as big loan write-offs in the past.

-- Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani rejected speculations his government had plans to place new curbs on the electronic media, and said he had told the parliamentary committee on information to review its recommendations that created such an impression.

THE NEWS

-- Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain hinted at parting ways with the government, but not to compromise on his principled stand on the NRO and other national issues.

-- Twenty-eight militants and five soldiers were killed as security forces continued battling their way into the Taliban stronghold of Ladha and Makeen in an ongoing military offensive in the South Waziristan tribal region.
