DAWN

-- In a move to wrest political initiative after a retreat on the controversial National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) he finally said had been dumped, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani told the National Assembly his government would seek early restoration of parliament's powers.

-- Security forces achieved a major success in their operation in South Waziristan by taking control of Sararogha, the operational nerve centre of Pakistani Taliban militants.

THE NEWS

-- A day after the government decided not to present the NRO in the parliament, Prime Minister Gilani made a pledge to fulfil the promise of implementing the Charter of Democracy and to revert powers from the presidency to the prime minister house.

-- At least 19 people were killed and 45 injured in a train accident in southern Pakistan.

-- Security forces have killed another 21 militants in South Waziristan, the army said, as troops secured a major success in the offensive by regaining control of the strategic town of Sararogha.  Continued...
