LONDON (Reuters Life!) - Britain may be a nation of animal lovers, but even the most indulgent owners may turn their noses up at the latest canine gift -- perfume for dogs.

A London store launched an eau de toilette for pampered pooches on Monday that costs 38 pounds ($78.60) for a 50 ml glass bottle.

Upmarket pet shop Mungo & Maud hired perfumer Lyn Harris to create a fragrance exclusively for man's best friend.

The result is "a gentle fragrance inspired by nature with notes of French blackcurrant, Tunisian neroli, mimosa and violet leaf on a base of sweet vanilla bourbon with a little almond".

The shop's creative director Nichola Sacher said she hoped the perfume, called Petite Amande, would "refresh the dog and appeal to the human nose".
