NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Indian cement firms have agreed to cut prices in some states of the country, Trade Minister Kamal Nath said on Wednesday, in another sign of the government stepping in to cool inflation.

Nath told reporters the government would look into problems of coal supplies to cement firms and consider tax relief for the sector.

High cement, metals and food prices pushed India's annual inflation rate to a 3-½ year high of 7.61 percent in late April and rising prices have forced the government and the Reserve Bank of India to announce a string of measures to calm price pressures.
