Runaway winner Fisher hails European Open achievement

ASH, England (Reuters) - Runaway winner Ross Fisher could barely believe the nature of his seven-shot victory at the European Open on Sunday.
"It hasn't sunk in yet," the 27-year-old Briton told reporters after a closing 68 gave him a 20-under-par total of 268, seven shots clear of Spain's Sergio Garcia.
"All of the commotion at the 18th hole, the crowd cheering, the photos, the trophy ... it's a massive achievement for me."
The Englishman is carving out a reputation as one of the longest hitters on tour but he also showed he had a neat touch around the greens when he wrapped up victory by holing out from a greenside bunker for a last-hole birdie.
"I looked at the ball and just thought, 'don't do anything silly here, just get it on the green and give yourself a 10, 15-footer for par," said Fisher.
"I got in the bunker, felt pretty calm, took the club back and the connection was good. To see it hit the flag and disappear ... that's what dreams are made of."
Fisher achieved his breakthrough victory at the Dutch Open last August and has been desperate to make sure that was not looked upon as a one-off.
"After winning in Holland I wanted to try to get the second as quickly as possible," said Fisher. Continued...
