UPDATE 1-Mexican retailer Comerci not in merger, buy talks

MEXICO CITY, April 2 (Reuters) - Mexican retailer Comerci said on Wednesday it is not in merger or acquisition talks with local or international companies.

Comerci (COMEUBC.MX: Quote, Profile, Research) shares had soared more than 15 percent in the last week amid reports the company's attractive share price could open the door for its sale.

"The company is not in talks with any Mexican or foreign company for carrying out any merger or acquisition," Comerci said in a statement to the Mexican stock exchange.

Its shares fell 1.46 percent on Wednesday to 30.40 pesos despite broad gains in the benchmark IPC stock index .MXX. (Reporting by Cyntia Barrera Diaz and Gabriela Lopez; Editing by Tim Dobbyn)
