Paulson to give update on U.S. economy on Wednesday
WASHINGTON, March 24 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson on Wednesday will provide an update of his views on the U.S. economy and financial markets, a Treasury spokeswoman said on Monday.
Paulson is scheduled to deliver keynote remarks on the economy and markets before the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Capital Markets Summit at 10:15 a.m. (1415 GMT) on Wednesday in Washington.
Paulson does not intend to use the speech to unveil a much-anticipated "blueprint" for a revamp of capital markets and banking regulation, said Treasury spokeswoman Brookly McLaughlin. The Treasury still expects to release the blueprint document within the next few weeks, she said.
The Treasury on Monday also gave its blessing to J.P. Morgan Chase & Co's (JPM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) decision to raise its all-stock offer for Bear Stearns Cos BSC.N to about $10 a share from an earlier price of $2.
"An orderly transition is in the best interests of the financial markets. This updated arrangement is consistent with that," McLaughlin said. (Reporting by David Lawder; Editing by Tom Hals)
