NEW YORK, March 25 (Reuters) - Activist billionaire investor Nelson Peltz's fund reported an increase in its percentage stake in Tiffany & Co (TIF.N: Quote, Profile, Research) to 8.44 percent from 7.9 percent.

The increase puts Trian Fund Management LP's ownership in the U.S. jeweler at roughly 10.72 million shares, according to the filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday.

A day earlier, Tiffany reported a quarterly profit that beat Wall Street's expectations. The New York-based company kept its cautious view on U.S. sales for the first half of the current fiscal year, but said it expects robust sales growth in international markets other than Japan.
