US STOCKS-Nasdaq turns positive; Dow, S&P 500 cut losses

NEW YORK, May 9 (Reuters) - The Nasdaq turned positive in mid-morning trading on Friday, led by gains in Microsoft (MSFT.O: Quote, Profile, Research) and Research in Motion (RIMM.O: Quote, Profile, Research) (RIM.TO: Quote, Profile, Research).
Video game maker Activision Inc's (ATVI.O: Quote, Profile, Research) stronger-than-expected profit was another boost for the technology sector, along with upbeat broker comments on graphics company Nvidia Corp (NVDA.O: Quote, Profile, Research).
By 11 a.m. (1500 GMT), the Nasdaq Composite Index .IXIC was up 0.17 points, or 0.01 percent, at 2,451.41.
Meanwhile, the Dow and the S&P 500 cut losses. The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI was down 84.26 points, or 0.65 percent, at 12,782.52. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index .SPX was down 6.50 points, or 0.47 percent, at 1,391.18. (Reporting by Kristina Cooke; Editing by James Dalgleish)
