SYDNEY, May 14 (Reuters) - Asian shares are set for a
lacklustre start on Wednesday, with financials seen falling
after the Federal Reserve chairman said credit markets were
still troubled, while record oil continued to stoke inflation
worries.
U.S. financial firms fell on Tuesday after Fed Chairman Ben
Bernanke said the credit crisis was not over and strong demand
from financial institutions to borrow from the U.S. central
bank showed "markets are still far from normal."
Several other Fed officials also expressed a growing
concern about inflation that may signal a pause in interest
rate cuts.
But the technology sector may be buoyed by news that
billionaire investor Carl Icahn is considering launching a
proxy fight for the Internet company Yahoo Inc (YHOO.O: Quote, Profile, Research) after
takeover talks between Yahoo and Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O: Quote, Profile, Research) were
abandoned.
Asian stocks listed on Wall Street .BKAS rose 0.40
percent, while the MSCI's measure of Asia Pacific stocks
excluding Japan .MSCIAPJ rose 0.6 percent overnight.
